Francis R. Mutton was born on February 15, 1923, and grew up during the Great Depression — an era that forged in him a character of iron: determined, disciplined, creative, and deeply caring.
When his country called, Francis answered. He served as a bombardier on a B-24 Liberator during World War II, flying combat missions over enemy territory. His service carried an enormous cost: he was captured and spent nine months as a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft III — the very camp made famous by the Great Escape — enduring hardship that most of us can scarcely imagine.
He came home, raised a family, and lived every day with the quiet dignity of a man who had already proven himself under fire. He passed on May 28, 2020, at the age of 97.
